Frequently Asked Questions
-
I made my first wedding cake in 2009 and have made hundreds of cakes, wedding and otherwise, since then.
-
I have reviews on multiple platforms like The Knot, Wedding Wire, Zola, and Google you can see!
-
My cakes are priced by the serving, beginning at $6 per serving for buttercream and $8 per serving for fondant. If the design, flavors, or fillings are elaborate, the price may be higher.
-
We will make sure to have a sketch or an inspiration photo (or several with elements you like on each one) for you to see and approve.
-
Cake tastings are usually $40 each, but we offer a discount at certain events like wedding expos.
-
I offer a lot of the standard flavors like chocolate, vanilla, red velvet, and lemon. Some couples choose something different like cookies n cream or a seasonal choice like spiced apple cider.
-
It is your wedding, and especially if you are paying for your cake, it should ultimately be the flavor you want. I would suggest picking a traditional flavor, like vanilla, to please a majority of your guests.
-
I am happy to handle special requests whenever possible. I cater to dietary needs and preferences, design ideas, traditions, and more.
-
I deliver and set up all wedding cakes at the venue for you. I want to make sure the cake arrives in perfect condition. If the unthinkable happens and it needs some touching up, I have a boo-boo kit with me including icing, spatulas, dowels, etc., in order to fix problems. I also add flowers, cake toppers, and other decorations at the venue when needed at no extra charge.
-
I have cakes booked out as far as a year out. I suggest at least deciding on your baker within 6-8 months minimum before your wedding. You usually do not have 100% of the details ironed out by then, but you can save the date for your wedding on the baker’s calendar.
-
I am happy to send a blank contract for you to look over before you make your final decision. There is also a copy of the terms and conditions here.
-
I have liability insurance I can show proof of if the venue requires it. The contract outlines the terms of cancellation, refunds, and the like.
-
Wedding cake prices are based on the number of servings and complexity, but the average cost seems to be between $400-$800.
How to Cut Your
Wedding Cake
-
Not too early and not too late! You do not want to cut the cake so early that guests don’t get to see it as a centerpiece. You do, however, want to have pictures of you with the cake fairly early during the reception. After that is done, the cake can be served at any time following photos. If you cut the cake too late, more will be wasted.
-
Most people provide their own cake serving set and save it. Others either use a family member’s set (think parents or grandparents) or borrow from the rental company, wedding coordinator, venue, or caterer.
-
Make sure you are comfortable holding the knife together because you often have to stand pretending to slice the cake for a while to get the perfect shot for the photographer.
-
Go ahead and have a bit of a plan before you are standing by your cake. Ask your coordinator or baker for advice if you feel anxious.
-
Please do not shove cake in each other’s faces unless you have agreed on it beforehand. Consider whether you want makeup smudged, wedding attire stained, or extra cleaning fees at the venue. These are all points worth considering before the cake cutting.
